The American Red Cross offers a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate swim program that teaches you, your child, or other family members how to swim skillfully and safely. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level. Each level also includes lessons in water safety.
PARENT AND CHILD AQAUTICS (Water Babies): For children under 3 years and a parent. These lessons are intended to help children become comfortable in the water as well as learn some basic water skills.
• Provides experiences and activities for children to:
o Learn to ask for permission before entering the water
o Learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner
o Feel comfortable in the water
o Explore submerging to the mouth, nose eyes, and completely
o Explore buoyancy on the front and back position
o Change body position in the water
o Learn how to play safely
o Experience wearing a life jacket
o Establish expectation for adult supervision
o Learn more ways to enter and exit the water in a safe manner
o Explore submerging to a rhythmic pattern
o Glide on the front and back with assistance
o Perform combined stroke on front and back with assistance
PRESCHOOL AQUATICS 1 (Non-Swimmers): Lessons for the child that has little to no water experience and may be frightened of the water. The main goals of this level will be to promote comfort in the water and to begin to learn how to swim.
• Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills:
o Enter and exit water using ladder, steps, or side
o Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
o Submerge mouth, nose, and eyes
o Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
o Front and back glides and recover to vertical position
o Back float and recover to a vertical position
o Roll from front to back and back to front
o Tread with arm and hand actions
o Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
o Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back
o Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
PRESCHOOL AQUATICS 2 & 3 (Non-Swimmers): Lessons for the child that has little to no water experience and may be frightened of the water. The main goals of this level will be to promote comfort in the water and to begin to learn how to swim.
• Helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water:
o Enter water by stepping in
o Exit water using ladder, steps, or side
o Bobbing
o Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
o Front and back floats and glides
o Recover from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position
o Roll from font to back and back to front
o Tread water using arm and leg actions
o Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
o Finning arm action on back
BEGINNER 1 & 2: Lessons for the child who is just beginning to explore or swim in the water independently. The main goal will be to learn to swim across the shallow end alone as well as some basic water skills and safety skills.
• Helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around water:
o Enter water by jumping in
o Enter and exit water using ladder, steps, or side
o Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
o Fully submerge and hold breath
o Bobbing
o Front, jellyfish, and tuck floats
o Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects
o Recover from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position
o Front and back floats and glides
o Recover to vertical position
o Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back
o Roll from front to back and back to front
o Tread water using arm and leg actions
o Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
o Finning arm action on back
o Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
o Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back
BEGINNER 3 & 4: Lessons for the child who is just beginning to explore or swim in the water independently. The main goal will be to learn to swim across the shallow end alone as well as some basic water skills and safety skills.
• Gives participants success with fundamental skills:
o Enter and exit water by stepping and jumping from the side
o Head first entries from side in sitting and kneeling positions
o Fully submerge and hold breath
o Bobbing and bobbing while moving
o Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
o Front, jellyfish, tuck floats, survival float
o Change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back
o Rotary breathing
o Front and back glides and floats
o Recover to vertical position
o Roll from front to back and back to front or back
o Tread water using arm and leg actions
o Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
o Finning arm action
o Flutter, scissor, dolphin, and breastroke kicks on front
o Front crawl and elementary backstroke
PRE-TEAM: This level is for the child that has become comfortable in the water and has mastered basic water skills. He/She must be able to put his/her face in the water and swim across the shallow end of the pool. There is no formal stroke technique required. The goal of this lesson group will be to learn all strokes well and work on technique. This lesson group can be customized for older individuals.
• Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills as well as provides further coordination and refinement of strokes:
o Headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions
o Swim under water
o Feet first surface dive
o Survival swimming
o Front crawl and backstroke open turns
o Tread water using 2 different kicks
o Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breastroke, sidestroke, and butterfly
o Flutter and dolphin kicks on back
o Shallow angle dive from side then glide and begin a front stroke
o Tuck and pike surface dives, submerge completely
o Front flip turn and backstroke flip turn while swimming
o Sculling
SWIMMING AND SKILL PROFICIENCY (STROKE CLINIC): This lesson group is available to swim team members as well as older swimmers who are wishing to further their stroke development. Swimmers must know and be able to swim all the strokes. We will work on our stroke techniques as well as competitive swimming and a little fitness.
• Refines the strokes so that participants swim them with ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Designed with the “menu” option that focuses on preparing participants for more advanced courses--focus on whatever they want and need to become better and continue into competitive swimming or other aquatic activities.
ADULT LESSONS:
Come learn to swim. It is never too late! Adult lessons are offered in a 45 minute PRIVATE LESSON ONLY at the cost of $120 for 6 sessions.
PRIVATE LESSONS:
If space permits (depending upon group swim lesson sign-ups), private 30 minute swim lessons will be offered during the hours of 11:00 am-4:30 pm for $30 each.
REGISTRATION:
TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS PLACED IN THE PROPER SWIM LESSON GROUP, PLEASE DOWNLOAD A COPY OF OUR REGISTRATION FORM . IF YOU SIGN UP AFTER THE POOL IS OPEN FOR THE SEASON, PLEASE SEE ONE OF THE INSTRUCTORS or CALL THE CLUB TO SCHEDULE AN EVALUATION TIME.
• If swim instructors or management feel that your child has been placed in the wrong lesson group, you will be asked to switch him/her into a different time slot when that lesson group meets. You will be guaranteed a spot in that lesson group.
• We have the right to move kids into and out of swim groups based on the above criteria, at our discretions.
DEEP WATER RUNNING PROGRAM
Back by popular demand, there will be adult water EXERCISE from 12:00 – 12:55 Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays

Fee: The cost for all 15 classes is $125 for members, and $185 for non-members

NOTE: Each participant must provide his/her own flotation device. We recommend Water Gym belts. They can be purchased by visiting WaterGym.com. Most participants should purchase a small belt.
